FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) about Stone “The Panthers Lair” After-School Program
What is Stone’s After-School Program?
Stone’s After-School program consists of a diverse set of club offerings, including recreation, social, life skills and academic enrichment activities. In addition, staying after to receive academic assistance from your classroom teacher is considered part of the after-school program. Unlike Elementary SACC programs, students choose specific clubs of interest and attend on those meeting dates.
When are activities offered?
Clubs and activities are offered 5 days a week from 2:15 – 4:30PM, for A and B sessions. Late buses are available on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 4:30. While parents/guardians may pick up students after school, students that walk MUST stay until the completion of their club (A or B session).
Starting Nov. 7, late buses will be provided for students staying on Mondays after school.
Please refer to the After-School Activities Calendar (located on the “Documents” tab of this site) for the most up-to-date information on club meetings.
When do clubs and activities begin?
The program officially opens all clubs and activities Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, and new clubs will be added during the school year. Please refer to the quarterly After-School Activities Calendar for the most up-to-date information on club meetings.
How do I sign-up for clubs?
Many clubs do not require student sign-up (just attend on scheduled dates!). Clubs that require sign-up or commitment will post a downloadable sign-up form on this website. These forms should be completed by parents and students and submitted to the club sponsor on or before the first club meeting.
When can I sign-up for clubs?
Club information (schedules and descriptions) will be added here on an ongoing basis and on Schoology. Commitment/Sign-up forms for clubs that require commitment or have limited space will also be posted to this website as they become available. Please refer back to this page often.
How many clubs can I sign-up for?
Students can attend as many after-school programs as they like as long as they don’t meet at the same time on the same day. Some clubs meet for a set number of weeks and require student commitment. Other clubs have a set number of spaces or require a student tryout to participate.
Can I start an After-School Club?
Students can work with Mr. Anderson, the After-School Program Specialist, to begin a club! Students who are interested in starting a club should have the following information:
- A written description of the club and its goals/objectives
- A list of >10 students who would be interested in attending
- A day of the week when the club would meet
- A potential adult club sponsor (Mr. Anderson can help with this)
Once this information is received by Mr. Anderson, it will be reviewed and possible next steps will be discussed.
How much does it cost to participate in After-School Activities?
After-School activities are funded through a grant from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. The program is free although there may be nominal fees associated with certain clubs that compete or have material costs. These fees are associated with less than 5% of the activities we offer.
